Charleston, North Carolina.According to authorities, a 24-year-old South Carolina woman was detained for reportedly using bleach to attack her ex-boyfriend during a furious altercation outside of an apartment building.

Anastacia Johnson-Simmons was arrested on Friday, according to confirmation from the North Charleston Police Department. She is accused of first-degree domestic violence.

Victim Claims Physical Assault and Chemical Attack

Before the event, Johnson-Simmons and the victim had been dating for almost two years, investigators said. The two allegedly got into a fight outside a housing complex on the day of the assault.

Officers were informed by the victim that Johnson-Simmons had slapped him in the face and then doused him in bleach, causing skin irritation and obvious white stains on his clothes.

Family Members Witnessed the Incident

The victim’s relatives told police they seen Johnson-Simmons carrying a bottle of bleach during the fight, confirming his story. The department upgraded the complaint to First-Degree Domestic Violence, a crime under South Carolina law, due to the seriousness of the incident and the possibility of bodily harm, particularly if the chemical had come into contact with open wounds.

After being arrested, Johnson-Simmons was sent to the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Police Urge Domestic Violence Victims to Seek Help

The North Charleston Police Department reaffirmed its dedication to handling domestic abuse allegations in a statement posted on its website:

The North Charleston Police Department urges anyone who is being abused or knows someone who is in danger to get help right once and continues to take all allegations of domestic violence seriously.
