CONWAY, S.C.Following the seizure of dozens of canines held in what investigators characterized as substandard and negligent conditions, a Conway man is facing nearly 80 criminal counts.
Following a tip from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, investigators found 39 dogs tethered to trees or housed in subpar kennels on property along Merritt Drive, leading to Herbert Dozier’s arrest Thursday, according to Horry County Police.
39 Dogs Taken Into Custody
According to officials, the animals were taken off the property right away and taken to the Horry County Animal Care Center for treatment and medical evaluation. While they are being evaluated, the seized canines are not yet up for adoption, fostering, or rescue.
According to the authorities, this case is among the biggest recent finds of abused animals in Horry County.
Felony and Misdemeanor Charges
Dozier is currently facing 78 accusations in all, including 39 felonies related to animal abuse. The charges are in line with the quantity of canines that were taken off the property and the circumstances surrounding their discovery.
While the investigation is ongoing, police have not disclosed any information regarding potential charges.
Community Urged to Stay Alert
Police urged locals to keep reporting suspected incidents of maltreatment and acknowledged a community tip for starting the probe. Authorities emphasized that in order to stop additional animal suffering, early notifications are essential.
Horry County residents are encouraged to get in touch with local law enforcement or animal services if they see any questionable animal-related activities.
