North Carolina’s Aberdeen.Authorities in Moore County are warning citizens to remain vigilant following two separate assaults by Arabid foxes that occurred just 30 minutes apart on Monday, August 11. According to USA Today, both victims needed medical attention but should recover.
Back-to-Back Attacks in the Same Neighborhood
The fox bit a person in the first incident, which happened at 8:05 a.m. along Midway Road. Thirty minutes later, at 8:35 a.m., the same animal assaulted a second individual less than a mile distant on Sycamore Street.
The Moore County Sheriff’s Office claims that although both victims reside in the same region, they were strangers. Shortly after the second attack, Animal Services deputies apprehended the fox and transported it to the State Laboratory for rabies testing.
Sheriff Ronnie Fields stated the test results were positive for rabies on Tuesday, August 12.
Victims Expected to Recover
Both were given rabies post-exposure vaccinations as part of their prompt medical care. Although their names have not been made public, officials have stated that their injuries were not life-threatening.
According to a statement from Sheriff Fields, things could have turned out much worse. We encourage everyone to use caution and stay away from any wildlife that seems hostile or out of the ordinary.
