North Mecklenburg Montessori School Demolished After Program’s Relocation to Charlotte

Huntsville, North Carolina.Trillium Springs Montessori School’s once-busty Huntersville site is no longer there. Two years after it was formally closed, the school building that had been located on Beatties Ford Road next to Long Creek Elementary was razed on Tuesday.

Relocation was part of a 2022 school board decision

In 2022, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education decided to close the Huntersville location and relocate the program to Lincoln Heights Academy, which is located in north Charlotte and is roughly 7.5 miles away. Promises of more room and improved resources for the flourishing Montessori program accompanied that vote.

Details regarding the school board’s decision are available in the Queen City News story.

Parents raised concerns about distance and staffing

The move was controversial even though district officials justified it by stating that a more capable facility was needed. Longer commutes, possible difficulties with staffing continuity, and the burden on resources during the transition were among the issues raised by some parents.

Demolition planning started earlier this year

The final tear-down of the former Trillium campus took place this past week, after preparations for its demolition started in the spring of 2025. Before the board decided to centralize operations, the school had been serving local families for years; now, the cleared site signifies the end of an era.
