PO IP, Hawai iA A guy from North Carolina died during a cliff-jumping incident at Keoneloa Bay, also called Shipwreck Beach, on the South Shore of Kaua.
The victim, named by authorities as 39-year-old Jerome Hill, was rescued from the water Thursday night after he struggled to swim after jumping from the well-known cliffside.
Rescue Efforts by Bystanders
According to emergency officials, first responders were notified of a distressed swimmer in the sea at approximately 6:30 p.m. Hill was successfully pulled back to land by beach witnesses who swam out to help him.
While awaiting the arrival of the American Medical Response teams and the Kauai Fire Department, CPR was administered onshore right away. Hill remained critically ill despite prolonged attempts to save his life.
Pronounced Dead at Hospital
After being taken to Wilcox Medical Center, Hill received emergency care from physicians there. Later, he was declared deceased.
The precise cause of death will be ascertained via an autopsy, officials revealed. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
