North Carolina State Trooper Hospitalized After High-Speed Pursuit Ends in Violent Crash

Following a high-speed pursuit that culminated in a dramatic crash on Interstate 40 late Friday night, North Carolina State Troopers are recuperating from significant injuries. A Winston-Salem man who is suspected of causing the collision has an arrest warrant issued by the authorities.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol reports that the incident started at approximately 10:45 p.m. when a trooper tried to stop a car near Mile Marker 165 on I-40 East that was speeding at 103 mph in a 70 mph zone.


Trooper s Vehicle Struck, Flipped Multiple Times

The suspect continued to accelerate and refused to stop. Authorities said the motorist purposefully swerved off the road and collided with another trooper’s car parked in the median close to Mile Marker 171 as the pursuit heated up. The patrol car overturned many times before coming to a stop as a result of the impact.

Both the trooper and the suspect were taken to a nearby hospital by emergency personnel from Davis County EMS. According to officials, both were seriously hurt.


Driver Identified, Faces Multiple Felony Charges

It has been determined that Luis A. Alamanzaof Winston-Salem, age 26, is the suspect. Authorities have filed an arrest warrant with the following charges against him, despite the fact that he is still in the hospital:

  • Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury
