Janesville Man Arrested for Trafficking Missing North Carolina Juvenile

According to authorities, a 29-year-old man was detained in Wisconsin after he allegedly met with a missing and endangered minor in North Carolina and returned her to his Janesville, Wisconsin, residence. The arrest came after a multi-state investigation that was started by the North Carolina Clay County Sheriff’s Office, according to WKOW.

Tip From North Carolina Leads to Arrest

Clay County investigators notified the Jacksonville Police Department (JPD) at around 2:03 p.m. on August 12 that Adam V. Gurney had allegedly met with the minor in North Carolina before taking her back to Wisconsin. A warrant for Gurney’s arrest was later issued by Clay County authorities.

Surveillance and Capture

After setting up surveillance at Gurney’s house, JPD officers saw him and the minor getting into a car in the driveway. Gurney’s father was reunited with her after the police moved in and took her into custody without any problems.

Search and Charges

Police carried out a search warrant at Gurney’s residence after the arrest. He was arrested on the following charges at the Rock County Jail:


  • Trafficking of a Child

  • Child Enticement

  • Sexual Intercourse with a Child Over 16
