Atlanta, Georgia.North Georgia will get another stretch of late-summer heat on Thursday, which is expected to be largely dry and sunny with highs in the low 90s. Atlanta News First reports that only the eastern counties will be at greater danger of nighttime storms, with rain chances remaining low for the majority of the region.
Weak System Moving Out
Much of the moisture from the lingering weather system that produced sporadic rains earlier this week has moved northeast. This change indicates that while most of North Georgia remains dry, isolated storms may still occur after 4 p.m. in Athens, Eatonton, and the surrounding areas.
Under a combination of sunshine and light clouds, forecasters anticipate highs of about 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which is just higher than the seasonal normal of 89 degrees. About 20% of the entire North Georgia region is expected to see rain, with the majority of that falling in the extreme east.
Weekend Weather Outlook
The area is entering an unusual August pattern, according to meteorologists, with hot, muggy afternoons and the possibility of pop-up thunderstorms every day. Highs are predicted to remain in the low 90s over the weekend, with humidity adding to the feeling of warmth.
Experts advise people organizing outdoor events to keep a watch on the radar in the late afternoons, when brief but powerful storms may form with little notice.
