Hall County first responders released photos Tuesday of a dramatic rescue that unfolded over the weekend in Habersham.
The photos show firefighters lowering a first responder into a well that a man had fallen into hours earlier. The man’s girlfriend told rescuers he was walking in an abandoned house on Arlo Todd Road near Hollywood when the floor collapsed. The man plummeted 75 feet into the abandoned well. He suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Emergency crews from Habersham, Hall, Rabun County, and Gainesville took three hours to coordinate the rescue and thirty minutes to pull the man to safety once they reached him.
Hall County Fire Rescue took to social media on Tuesday and gave a shout-out to everyone involved: “Great work to all of the crews who worked together to save the patient and give them immediate EMS care!”
The man was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment.
Habersham County Emergency Services Chief Jason Davey said the rescue was “a testament to the strength and unity of our neighboring communities.”
