Ala. Auburn. After an Auburn Police Department investigation linked a Georgia man to both identity theft and property theft, he was placed under arrest.

Demtreus Vontrail Davis, 30, of Conley, Georgia, was taken into custody on felony warrants for identity theft and first-degree property theft, authorities said Friday.

Investigation Began with Forged Check

The case began when a victim in Auburn reported a falsified check that had been stolen from the mail on December 5, 2024. The check was altered, according to the police, and placed into a bank account connected to an unnamed suspect.

Following months of inquiry, Auburn police were able to identify Davis as the culprit and secure arrest warrants.

Arrest and Extradition

Troops from the Georgia State Patrol later found Davis and took him into custody based on the pending warrants. Prior to his extradition back to Alabama on Wednesday, he was held in the Henry County Jail in Georgia.

He was taken to the Lee County Jail upon his arrival and is currently being held on a $10,000 bail.
