, even if they appear shallow 12 inches of moving water can sweep away most vehicles.

Tips for Driving During Heavy Rain
It is advised that drivers exercise additional caution when it is raining. The NWS suggests:
-

headlights
, even during daylight. -
Avoiding puddles
and low road shoulders where water gathers. - Staying away from large vehicles that may spray water and reduce visibility.
-
Turning around
when encountering a flooded road don t risk hydroplaning or engine damage.
High speeds, deep water, and limited tire tread are the main causes of hydroplaning, which can happen even in a small layer of water. On wet roads, the NWS advises drivers to reduce their speed and refrain from making abrupt maneuvers.
