HALL COUNTY, Ga. — A boat explosion on Lake Lanier on Friday night injured five persons.

At approximately 7 p.m., Hall County Fire Rescue (HCFR) was called to a burning boat near Lanier Islands Parkway. According to fire department spokesperson Kimberlie Ledsinger, rescue workers discovered the ship engulfed in flames up to five feet deep when they arrived, and several casualties need medical assistance.

The patients were swiftly taken from the site and prepared for transportation by emergency personnel. An AirLife helicopter was used to transport one of the four people to Grady Memorial Hospital. Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville received a fifth patient. According to Ledsinger, everyone was in stable condition.

To put out the fire, firefighters used a portable pump and the help of the Gainesville Fire Department’s Marine Rescue boat. They towed the damaged ship to land.

The Hall County Fire Marshal’s Office is still looking into what caused the explosion.
