Charleston, North Carolina.Authorities say a 45-year-old man was detained after he allegedly threatened and physically attacked a state employee during a confrontation at a job fair in North Charleston.
When asked to sign in at the SC Works Center on Hanahan Road on April 17, Ricardo Darnell Jones became agitated, according to arrest warrants submitted by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).
Threats Against State Employee
Jones allegedly threatened a South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce (SCDEW) employee, stating that they would not be present if he had his gun, according to investigators.
According to reports, the employee was stuck during the altercation, with walls and tables preventing them from leaving. According to warrants, multiple staff members saw the incident and it was captured on camera.
Assault in the Lobby
Jones dropped his phone in the foyer after being instructed to leave the job fair. Jones allegedly shoved another employee into a wall as they tried to pick it up, hitting the worker’s head in the process.
According to the warrant, Jones yelled and insisted that they not touch his phone, which made the victim dread more violence.
Arrest and Charges
Jones was arrested on Wednesday after the SCDEW requested an investigation. The Charleston County Prison received his booking on:
-
Two counts of third-degree assault and battery
-
One count of threatening the life of a public employee
Information regarding bond and future court appearances has not been made public by the authorities.
