Atlanta, Georgia.Four lanes were stopped near the Jimmy Carter Boulevard exit in Gwinnett County on Friday afternoon due to a collision on Interstate 85 North, which resulted in significant traffic delays.
According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the incident caused the interstate’s northbound side to close for about an hour before lanes were restored.
Pickup Truck Blamed for Multi-Vehicle Crash
According to Georgia State Patrol investigators, the collision started when a Chevy pickup truck was following too closely in crowded traffic and moving too quickly for the conditions. The chain-reaction collision was caused by the truck colliding with many cars.
Minor Injuries Reported
Although no fatalities were recorded, troopers acknowledged that minor injuries were inflicted in the crash. In order to clear the area and resume traffic, emergency personnel moved swiftly.
Charges against the pickup truck driver are still pending, according to authorities.
Traffic Backlog Cleared
The collision contributed to the already heavy Friday traffic by creating a major backlog along I-85 North. Officials verified that all lanes had reopened and that traffic had subsided in the vicinity of Pleasantdale Road by late afternoon.
