Georgia’s AtlantaResidents who may have been impacted by the late July cyberattack are now receiving replacement Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards, according to the Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS).

Replacement Cards Sent to Impacted Clients

DHS announced in a statement:

A replacement EBT card was given to clients who might have been affected by the latest cyberattack. The client’s existing card was disabled by the replacement. To open an account, check their balance, and access advantages, the customer will require the replacement card.

Following the hack, SNAP users who were unable to access their accounts experienced weeks of bewilderment and annoyance before receiving this notification.

Attack Disabled Call Center

On July 28, the Georgia SNAP contact center’s Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system was forced to go down due to a hack that was referred to as an automated bot attack.

Thousands of families are unable to use their typical means of managing benefits or checking accounts since that system is still down.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture stated that it is still keeping a close eye on the situation and confirmed that at least six additional states have released similar findings.
