In North Carolina, GreensboroMiso, a Himalayan red panda who had won over the hearts of both staff and guests since her debut in 2023, passed away, and the Greensboro Science Center (GSC) is in mourning.
Miso s Health Struggles
Miso had been receiving continuous therapy for an anadrenal condition, which is comparable to Addison’s disease in dogs, according to GSC. Her body was unable to produce crucial steroid hormones like cortisol, which are necessary for normal function, because of the disease.
In recent weeks, her condition deteriorated despite ongoing veterinarian care. After a severe decline, caregivers decided to help her pass away peacefully on Thursday out of compassion.
A Beloved Member of the GSC Family
Employees characterized Miso as a lively and loving red panda who soon won over both staff and visitors.
According to Advanced Animal Care Specialist Laura F., Miso, or Mimi as we loved to call her, was the brightest little light.Every time we entered the room, she greeted us. She was a bamboo fiend who was very feisty and encouraged me to never give up. Everyone will miss her terribly.
A Lasting Impact
The Greensboro Science Center expressed gratitude to its employees, veterinarians, and community members for their commitment in a statement:
For their kindness and unwavering efforts with Miso over the last two years, we are immensely appreciative of our veterinarian and animal care personnel. We ask that you remember our staff and her caregivers. Both employees and visitors were profoundly impacted by Miso, who will be sorely missed.
Queen City News posted Miso’s complete recollection.
