State Election Board focus of upcoming House study committee hearing in Clarkesville

Later this month, a public meeting in Clarkesville will be held by the Georgia House Blue Ribbon Study Committee on Election Procedures to discuss the function and efficacy of the State Election Board.

The hearing will take place at North Georgia Technical College on Thursday, August 28. State Representative Victor Anderson (R-Cornelia), who is also the chairman of the House Governmental Affairs Committee and the vice chair of the study committee, stated that this is an issue that is quite relevant today and is expected to generate some lively discussion. According to Anderson, holding the hearing in District 10 allows local residents to participate directly in the legislative process.

The study committee is examining state-wide election practices, paying special emphasis to the composition, mission, and responsibility of the State Election Board. The results of the hearings are anticipated to be used by the panel’s lawmakers to inform future legislation pertaining to Georgia’s election rules.
