A simple traffic stop in Meriden, Connecticut, resulted in a significant arrest when police found a stolen weapon from North Carolina inside the car of an East Haven convicted criminal.

When police stopped Isaiah Williams on Thursday on Cook Avenue close to Summer Street, they found a Kel-Tec PMR30 handgun in.22 caliber and an NCStar red dot gun inside his BMW. (WFSB)

Gun Traced Back to Fayetteville, North Carolina

The firearm had been reported stolen from Fayetteville, North Carolina, according to a records check. It is illegal for Williams, who is already known to the authorities as a convicted felon, to own or carry a firearm.

Arrest, Bond, and Court Date Set

A $750,000 bail was issued for Isaiah Williams after he was detained on many allegations. On August 28, he is expected to appear in court.

Authorities did not immediately provide any information on how the firearm was obtained or whether Williams had any known ties to the Fayetteville area.

This case demonstrates the difficulties in preventing stolen firearms from traveling across state boundaries as well as the growing worries about interstate gun trafficking. For more information about crime and public safety in the Carolinas, follow the Saltuda Standard-Sentinel.
