Deadly Weekend in Nashville Contrasts Tennessee’s Declining Violent Crime Rates

Tennessee’s Nashville.Although Tennessee’s violent crime rate has decreased over the last five years, according to recently released FBI figures, Nashville’s situation this past weekend was far more dire. Three separate shootings, one of which was fatal, were responded to by police in a span of two days.


Fatal Shooting Outside Madison Gas Station

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the most serious incident happened just before 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 9, when gunshots started in the MAPCO gas station parking lot in the 1300 block of Neelys Bend Road. Chris Bond II, 25, was the victim who passed away at TriStar Skyline Medical Center.

Timothy Lamar Williams, 36, is the suspect, according to investigators, who fled in his car before being taken into custody at a Cheyenne Boulevard apartment building. Williams is currently being charged with felony criminal homicide.

South Nashville Bar Shooting Injures Woman

Over the weekend, there were other violent incidents besides the Madison shooting. A woman was shot in the leg while sitting in a car outside a bar in the 100 block of Lafayette Street in South Nashville at around three in the am on Saturday. According to WKRN, police say the gunshots came after a fight between a customer and a security worker at the bar.


East Nashville Apartment Complex Shooting

Another guy was injured in a gunshot at an apartment complex on Dellway Villa Road in East Nashville on Sunday afternoon, August 10. Although the victim was transferred to the hospital, according to the authorities, there have been no updates on his health (source).


Community Concerns Despite Statewide Progress

Although violent crime has significantly decreased in Tennessee, according to recent FBI data, Nashville still has difficulties, according to locals like Marcus Boyd. He stated, “I agree that the crime rate is declining, but carjacking [is] increasing, so there’s a lot to work on in the community and throughout Nashville.”
