North Carolina’s eastern regionThe National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flood watch for portions of Eastern North Carolina through 6 p.m. Monday, alerting locals to the ongoing potential of off-shore flooding due to heavy rains.

Early on Monday morning, NWS Wilmington released the revised advisory, which now applies to Columbus County, Inland and Coastal Brunswick, and Inland and Coastal New Hanover. According to officials, rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying regions may flood as a result of excessive runoff. At night, when flood hazards are more difficult to identify, the risk is particularly deadly.

NWS Safety Guidelines During Flooding

Residents in flood-prone areas are urged by the NWS to evacuate if directed and to get to higher ground as away. If you have time, disconnect appliances and utilities and lock your property before leaving. Stay away from areas with submerged electrical outlets, such as basements, and water that might be electrically charged.
