Fort Mill Hostage Turns Shooter in Wild Multi-County Chase Through South Carolina

County of Chester, S.C.One man is in arrest and facing numerous charges after a dramatic nighttime hostage incident turned into a fast-paced chase throughout several South Carolina counties that ended in Fort Mill.


Assault and Kidnapping Unfold in Chester County

A victim was allegedly attacked and held captive for many hours inside a house on Oak Hill Road in Chester County at approximately 10 p.m. on July 29. Following reports of shooting, deputies from the Chester County Sheriff’s Office arrived shortly after one in the morning on July 30.

Upon their arrival, they discovered that the victim had taken possession of a firearm and had fired several shots at the putative captor, Eric Lee Pressley.


Suspect Flees in Stolen Vehicle, Chase Ensues

Pressley left the scene in the victim’s car despite being hurt. The stolen vehicle was swiftly found by law authorities at a QT gas station in Richburg; however, Pressley fled when deputies tried to stop him, resulting in a multi-agency pursuit.

With the help of the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the York County Sheriff’s Office, the pursuit continued through York County until it came to a halt close to Piedmont Medical Center on Highway 160 in Fort Mill, where Pressley was apprehended.


Charges Piling Up for Pressley

To receive medical attention for his wounds, Eric Pressley was taken to a hospital. He will be taken to the Chester County Detention Center after being released.

The following charges are pending against him:


  • Kidnapping

  • Armed robbery

  • Assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature
