Health officials stress heat safety

According to Kristin Patten, public information officer of the South Health District in Valdosta, Georgia’s high humidity can make already hot days extremely riskier, particularly for those who work or spend time outside.

Just be sure to drink a lot of water—at least two to four cups every hour, according to Patten.

Since fans might not be sufficient to keep people cool, the National Weather Service advises those without air conditioning to take cold baths or showers.

Meghan Herendeen of the Southwest Health District in Albany stated that headaches, nausea, and dizziness are some of the signs of heat exhaustion. She emphasized how critical it is to rapidly reduce the body’s internal temperature.

More serious symptoms including disorientation, slurred speech, and seizures might be signs of heat stroke and need to be treated right once.

According to CDC data, 76 Georgians lost their lives to heat-related illnesses between 2018 and 2022.
