North Augusta, SC and Augusta, GAOvernight lane closures for both sides of Interstate 20 have been issued by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) at the Savannah River Bridge, which spans the Georgia-South Carolina state line. Travel late next week is anticipated to be impacted by the closures, which are a part of continuing upgrades for the I-20 bridge corridor.
Closure Schedule and Details
On I-20, drivers heading east or west between mile markers 201 and 202 can anticipate the following nighttime closures:

- Right-hand lane closed in both directions
- Lane expected to reopen by 7 a.m. without significant delays

Additionally, GDOT issued a warning that, contingent on work zone logistics, shoulder sections in both directions may be affected.
During the nighttime construction window, the agency advised all drivers to exercise caution and anticipate slight delays.
Part of Savannah River Bridge Project
The closures are related to the I-20 at Savannah River Bridge project, a long-term infrastructure improvement project that aims to improve connectivity between Augusta, Georgia, and North Augusta, South Carolina, as well as increase bridge safety and reduce congestion.
GDOT recommends reading daily traffic warnings before crossing the state line, even though traffic impacts are currently only planned for nighttime hours.
