Public safety and utility crews fanned out across Northeast Georgia Saturday in the wake of severe storms that rolled through the region.
In Stephens County, the Carnes Creek Fire Department urged drivers to “use caution” as crews worked to clear roadways.
“Multiple trees and power lines [are] down throughout the county,” a fire department official said. “Please use caution while driving! All county and city units are busy trying to clear roadways and 911 is receiving multiple calls for more.”
The fire department ended its alert on social media with an appeal for the public to “Please be safe!”
Damage reports have been coming in from Now Habersham readers, but no official damage assessments have been released.
Now Habersham’s Tyler Penland says straight line winds of between 40-60 mph caused most of the damage.
If you are out on the roads Saturday evening, please watch for downed trees and power lines. Do not attempt to remove debris near where power lines are down, and treat all utility lines as though they are live.
Now Habersham will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as information becomes available.
