Man found dead in Gainesville roadway

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — A quiet Gainesville neighborhood was shaken early Sunday morning after a 31-year-old man was found dead in the middle of the road.

Just before 3:30 a.m. on June 1, Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a crash and an unresponsive person at the intersection of McConnell Drive and Mount Crest Drive. When they arrived, deputies found the man lying in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been sent for autopsy to determine the cause of death. So far, investigators are uncertain whether the man was hit by a vehicle that fled the scene or collapsed and died in the roadway. All possibilities remain under investigation, according to the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau.

While authorities know the victim’s identity, they are withholding his name until his next of kin is notified.

Roads in the area were closed for just over three hours Sunday morning as investigators processed the scene.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Investigator Bray at 770-533-7813.
