12 Injured in Greyhound Bus Crash on I-85 in South Carolina During Route from Charlotte

GREENVILLE, S.C. — A Greyhound bus on its way from Charlotte to Atlanta was engaged in a catastrophic collision on Interstate 85 early Friday morning, injuring 12 people, including the driver.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation reports that the collision happened in the southbound lanes close to Exit 51A-SC146-Woodruff Road. Just before one in the morning, Greenville Police said they got a call about an accident between a dump truck and a Greyhound bus.

Bus Driver Seriously Injured, Passengers Hospitalized

According to authorities, the bus driver was sent to Greenville Memorial Hospital after suffering severe injuries, and the other eleven passengers received minimal medical attention at other hospitals.

According to the police, there were about thirty-four people on the bus when the incident occurred. A Greenlink transit bus was sent to collect the unhurt passengers following the collision.

Greyhound Responds, Sends Backup Transportation

Reporters were informed by Greyhound officials that the car was traveling from Charlotte, North Carolina to Atlanta, Georgia, at the time of the collision. To help the remaining passengers get to their final destinations, an Arelief bus was dispatched.

According to the corporation, safety is their first concern, and they are working closely with law police throughout the inquiry.

Interstate Reopened After Hours of Closure

Following the collision, all southbound lanes of Interstate 85 were briefly stopped, causing delays into the early morning. Since then, authorities have attested to the highway’s complete reopening.

The Greenville Police Department’s investigation into the crash’s circumstances is still ongoing. At the time of publication, no citations or charges had been made public.
